International Call for Entries

This competition is an excellent opportunity for artists around the world to bring their art into the light for a worldwide audience. Our jury is composed of high-caliber internationally well-known artists. With their acute artistic sense, they ensure that purely by your talent, you will be recognized for your unique artwork.

You will be a winner even if you are just a finalist. You will have an opportunity to show your artwork at our exhibition in Chicago (USA) in January of 2010, called the “Energy Art Salon”. In addition to that, you will be featured on our website permanently (we are no. 4 for “art movement” in Google, ahead of all other notable art movements in history). What’s more, a total $600 will be awarded to the top three competitors!

The name “salon” comes from the awarded medals at the “Salon de Paris” of the French Academy in the 19th century, the most prestigious competition of its time in the world. Like back then, we would like this competition to promote genuine artistic talent from around the world, and set a quality standard in the Fine Arts.

Requirements

The competition is open to everyone, members and non-members alike, internationally for all ages. The only requirement for the entries, is that they are energetic either in composition or in subject matter. Participants may enter one picture only, either into the primary (above 22) or junior (under 22) category. Both 2D and 3D, traditional and digital mediums are accepted, and get juried fairly and separately in categories, by artists working in those media.

Awards

A total of $600 (USD) will be awarded in the primary and junior categories to the top three competitors, divided in a 2:1 and a 5:3:2 ratio, respectively. The sum is subject to increase. Paid via PayPal or Western Union.

An opportunity shall be granted to winners and finalists, to exhibit their entry artwork free of charge, at the Murphy Hill Gallery in Chicago (USA) during the month of January 2010. The exhibition is going to be titled the Energy Art Salon 2010.

Digitally designed gold / silver / bronze / copper medals awarded to the first / second / third place winners and finalists, respectively. These beautifully designed medals will be unique for the artist, while reflecting our movement’s symbolism, displayable wherever the artist wishes.

Primary and Junior Category /merged/

Diógenes Lamarche   -   movement essayist, digital artist
Ken D. Matheson   -   senior member, traditional / digital painter, draughtsman, sculptor
Steve Smith   -   exclusive member, draughtsman
Miguel Tió   -   senior member, traditional painter (mische technique)

Jurying Process

There will be two rounds of jurying. In the first round, the jurors will be assigned to the different media/subject categories according to their own background and expertise. They will say a “yea or nay” to each entry, potentially adding a point for the piece. Finalists will be a specific percentage of the entries (likely top 5-10%) in each sub-category, also depending on the number of entries. In the second round, the finalist artworks will be judged according to five criteria, each given a 0-4 rating: colors, forms, composition, expressivity, and ingenuity. Color and form ratings will be weighted in a 2:3 ratio versus the three other “higher” criteria. Each criteria will be graded within the isolated conceptual framework of the piece, not comparatively to other entries. In other words, what matters is how well the artist visualizes their idea/theme in the piece. The above process is analogous for the primary and the junior categories, with the two separate juries.

During the jurying process, your name will not be disclosed to the jury.

Results

The jury is pleased to announce the results of the competition.

We were glad to see so many excellent quality energy artworks congregate due to our call for entries. We hope you will enjoy viewing this short list of great traditional and digital artworks being created every day.

There were over fifty primary entries but relatively few junior entries - only six, so the two categories along with the jury had been merged. Three junior entrants made it into the finals however, and they placed according to the points acquired.

Winners will now get the $600 in total prizes. All finalists receive a medal of our illuminated emblem, and the opportunity to exhibit at our annual Energy Art Salon, along with our members’ We Are Connected Project Entries. You are invited to attend:
